Private cars have become an important aspect of people‘s life in many parts of our country, especially in large cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. While they bring much convenience to people, they are also widely criticized. There are some arguments for owning private cars. In the first place, cars allow people to move around freely, which greatly improves our living standard. We can easily drive cars for sightseeing on weekends. In the second place, cars are a comfortable way to travel, especially in bad weather. Last but not least, the car industry can boost economy by creating many job opportunities in production of steel, rubber, glass and so on. However, there are also many good arguments against cars. First of all, they pollute the environment by emitting harmful gases and giving out loud noises. In addition, cars cause a large number of traffic accidents, which bring great misery to the victims‘ families. As far as I am concerned, we should limit the number of private cars by providing better mass transportation and better service for the people. Everyone should sacrifice his or her own interest for the common good of the society.

The use of the motorcar is becoming more and more widespread in the 21st century.Possessing a car gives a much greater degree of mobility,enabling the driver to move around freely.The car owner is no longer forced to rely on public transport to get about. with the building of good,fast motorways long distances can be covered rapidly and pleasantly.And many people are now able to enjoy their leisure time to the full by making trips to the country or seaside at weekends,instead of being confined to their immediate neighborhood.
When,however,considering the drawbacks,perhaps poilution is of prime problems.As more and more cars are produced and used,so the emission from their ehaust pipes contains an ever larger volume of poisonous gas,which not only pollutes the atmosphere but causes actual harm to the health of people. another serious problem is traffic congestion,endless queuse of cars crawling bumper to bumper through all the main streets.Difficulties in finding parking lots,and the cost of petrol and road ta all add to the driver s worries.
With both of these advantages and disadvantages of the use of a car in mind,I, personally,prefer to have my own car for work and play.I can have a wider choice of jobs as I no longer have to work locally,and I can make better use of my free time by driving out at weekends. the feeling of independence, and the freedom to go where I please, is what I enjoy most.

Once man did not have to think about the protection of his environment. There were few people on the earth, and natural resources seemed to be unlimited.
Today things are different. The world has become too crowded. We are using up our natural resources,and polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we continue to do this, human life on earth will not survive.
We realize that if too many fish are taken from the sea, there will soon be none left. Yet,with modern fishing methods, more and more fish are caught.We know that if too many trees are cut down, forests will disappear. Yet, we continue to use powerful machines to cut down more and more trees. We see that if rivers are polluted with waste products, we will die. Yet, waste products are
still put into rivers.
We know that if the population continues to rise at the present rate, in a few years, there won＇t be enough food.What can we do to solve these problems?
If we eat more vegetables and less meat, there will be more food available. Land for crops feeds five times more people than land where animals are kept.
Our natural resources will last longer if we learn to recycie them.
The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methods of birth control.
Finally, if we educate people to think about the problems we shall have a better and cleaner planet in the future.

Too many cars have caused a lot of serious problems in our world. Besides congestion, accidents and fast fuel consumption, cars are responsible for a good part of air pollution in big cities.
One possible solution is to design and develop clean cars and clean fuels. In Shanghai, some of the public buses begin to run on natural gas, which does not give off as much carbon dioxide as petrol. Another solution is to develop modern public transportation systems and restrict the use of private cars. If the price of petrol rises constantly and the public vehicles are efficient and convenient enough, most people will not buy private cars. Thus, the total number of cars in big cities will reduce greatly.
On the whole, the elimination of air pollution needs the collective efforts from the government, the public and the environmentalists.
